Once again our friends Scottish Power are in the news today, this time for not answering calls and overcharging customers.
Many Scottish Power customers are still being overcharged for gas and electricity – despite intervention by Ofgem the energy regulator. Customers who complain are also being kept waiting for their calls to be answered while those who get through often receive very little help.
Scottish Power says a state-of-the-art £200 million IT system has caused these problems. It is understood these issues have left some vulnerable customers without heating, while others have been over-charged hundreds of pounds or been unable to get credit payments refunded.
In one case Scottish Power sent bailiffs to forcibly enter a home and install a pay-as-you-go meter to recoup a £1,000 bill left by the previous tenant. To add insult to injury customers trying to resolve these errors have struggled to get through on dedicated customer phone helplines.
